Joanna Present Wolfe, L.Ac.

Joanna Present Wolfe, Licensed Acupuncturist, was compelled to study Chinese medicine when treatments for a stubborn respiratory ailment unexpectedly clarified her mental and emotional states. Not only could she physically breathe better after treatment, she walked away with a renewed sense of purpose and vitality. This feeling is what she strives to offer each patient in her Portland, Oregon based practice.

Joanna earned her master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. She is board-certified in both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology, as well as NADA-certified in treating addictions. Her training includes multiple styles of acupuncture, each of which offers unique strategies to best serve the individual:

· Five-element acupuncture is especially suited for emotional and spiritual concerns that affect physical well being and are at the root of physical symptoms.

· TCM is a comprehensive acupuncture style to relieve symptoms of physical pain and discomfort, and to regulate internal functions.

· Japanese meridian therapy is a very gentle acupuncture style, with extremely light needle insertions and stimulation. This style uses the abdomen to diagnose and release pathologies affecting the whole body. It is great for needle-sensitive patients.

· Herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, and dietary counseling all extend the acupuncture treatment beyond the treatment room and enhance the effects of the acupuncture.

Joanna loves to work with stress-related illnesses, such as anxiety, insomnia, and fatigue. She also enjoys supporting parents at any stage of pregnancy/postpartum/caregiving. She supports people working through life transitions: changes in career, relationships, or family, as well as puberty, menopause, and other age-related physical transformations. She has a passion for treating caregivers and creative people of any kind.

Joanna’s core belief in her practice is that the body knows how to function, and our job is to remind it of this intrinsic ability. One of her favorite Chinese medical dictums is that “the teacher is on the table.” She honors that you, the patient, are the expert on how you feel, and that you have the power to restore your innate state of health. Her first goal is always to listen.

Joanna is a preferred provider on most insurance plans that cover acupuncture.
